Nathan James Interview with GenerEOS
Our new Director of Developer Relations, Nathan James, joined Jimmy D for an excellent interview on The GenPool Spotlight by GenerEOS. For anyone who is unfamiliar with Nathan’s stellar track record, he is a highly respected technical leader, full-stack developer with EOSIO-based Ultra, and originator of Scatter, the first wallet to run on EOS. You can learn more about Nathan’s exciting plans as our new Director of Developer Relations in the introductory blog post, the cinematic announcement video (featuring an inspiring speech from Nathan), last week’s Everything EOS Report, and last week’s EOS Hot Sauce.
During this fascinating interview, Nathan James spoke about his experience working with EOS since 2018, the history of Scatter wallet, developments on various projects with EOSIO, the importance of both expanding our developer base & retaining current developers, and his thrilling visions to empower developers with EOS. Nathan is reimagining the developer experience on EOS to attract, train, and retain top developer talent in the ecosystem. He is working to form a team and build decentralized developer hub where ecosystem participants are incentivized to mentor others, create tutorials, port applications, and discover world-class EOS educators.
The developer hub will be a collaborative space for EOS developers to hone their skills, make connections, unlock new opportunities as they learn, and work together to co-create public good development materials. His team will provide interactive ways for developers to enter the EOS ecosystem and learn how to make amazing dApps with a full suite of courses, front-end & smart contract walkthroughs, mentorship programs, excellent incentives, and so much more to provide amazing experiences for all developers and foster the next generation of development on EOS. The possibilities are especially enthralling when you consider how the developer hub will synergize with other innovative systems in EOS, including Pomelo, Eden, ENF Grants, ENF Ventures, ƒractally, RFPs, and so many other helpful mechanisms & projects for fostering growth in EOS.
In addition to the interview with GenerEOS, Nathan is actively engaging with the community throughout social media and meeting with developers to better understand how to help. First, Nathan joined this week’s EOS Fireside Chat to discuss promotional strategies for attracting developers to EOS and share more details about his plans as Director of Developer Relations. Throughout the week, Nathan also shared many helpful insights in the EOS telegram chat and many tweets to scope out future hackathons, developer content creators, favorite blockchain applications, developer twitter spaces, favorite development tools, and favorite developers in the EOS community.
Perhaps most importantly, Nathan has a keen understanding of the importance of stories and the tremendous stories of the EOS community. As he wrote in a recent tweet, “Stories are what make people take notice. Many blockchains have stories. Not many blockchains have stories like EOS does. It just needs to be told properly.”
Yves La Rose Interview with BSN
The founder and Executive Director of the EOS Network Foundation, Yves La Rose, will join BSN for an interview on Blockchain All-Star, where we can expect vibrant discussions about Yves’ career journey and personal life stories. The BSN, or Blockchain-based Service Network, is China’s state-backed EOSIO blockchain that enables some of the largest tech companies in the world, such as Tescent and Alibaba, to connect with EOS and other public blockchains in a manner that is compliant with Chinese regulations. The China Centre for Information Industry Development, a Chinese state institution, has rated EOS as the best blockchain in the world for the past four years.
You can read about more about the BSN and it’s collaboration with EOS in the March 28th Everything EOS Weekly Report, which covered the announcement of Zhong Yi Chain, another BSN private blockchain based on EOS that bolsters the growth of Chinese NFTs. The Zhong Yi Chain is developed by China Mobile, which is the biggest telecommunications provider in the world based on user numbers and market capitalization. You can also listen to an Everything EOS podcast with Yves La Rose and Yifan He, the CEO of the company that architected the BSN, to learn how the BSN drives EOS adoption with end-to-end integration with the EOS Network.
Boid Avatars
The Boid team released Boid Avatars, an exciting new NFT project where you can design your own unique NFT avatar and earn BOID when others mint your design. Boid Avatars enable you to design your own avatar by customizing & combining eight body parts: eyed, head, mouth, top, torso, legs, small-wings, and big-wings. As Eden member Jay Bosworth wrote in an insightful blog post, “It’s like Mr. Potatohead but with NFTs!”
In addition to designing your own avatar, you can also collect playful special edition avatars designed by the Boid team for many EOS community leaders, including Yves La Rose, Daniel Keyes, Zack Gall, Stéphane Bisson, Aaron Cox, John Heeter, and Daniel Larimer. This week Boid also announced the Ukraine Boid Avatar charity auction with flowery artwork to raise funds for supporting Ukraine. The avatars are receiving much high praise from many community members and several EOS community leaders are now donning their Boid Avatar in social media profile pictures, as you can see on the Twitter accounts of Zack, Daniel, and Stéphane.
Joining world class EOS powered NFT games such as Upland, the artful Boid Avatars are among the most comprehensive, expressive, and interactive NFT projects ever built on EOS. Collectors & designers can mint common or rare Part Pack NFTs with a variety of avatar parts on Boid’s site or purchase packs on secondary markets like Atomic Hub. Once acquired, Part Pack NFTs can be opened to reveal Avatar Part NFTs and Avatar Templates can be created on the design page by combining 8 Avatar Part NFTs together. Anyone can mint from Avatar Templates on the browse page by paying a template creation fee in BOID, which is determined by the the rarity rating of the parts used in the template. The template fees are used to both reward the Avatar Template creator and burn BOID to help foster the growth of the expansive Boid ecosystem.
In addition to providing playful ways to express yourself and potential profit opportunities, Boid Avatars act as a unique pass to participate in future Boid Universe ecosystem. Boid has been functioning as a social supercomputer on EOS to help solve the world’s biggest problems & questions since 2018. Boid makes it easy to connect your devices and use your computing power to contribute to big ideas, such as medical treatments to cure cancer, climate research, cosmological exploration, and machine learning to power the next generation of artificial intelligence. As you can see on their main website and whitepaper, Boid enables teams to work together to conduct scientific research with Boid Power, & earn the Boid token. Boid has been installed on over 7,000 machines and helped complete millions of tasks for countless crowdsourced research projects, as you can see on websites like World Community Grid & Folding@Home.
Now, the Boid team is building the Boid Universe to gamify the experience of collaborative scientific research, foster the growth of a prosocial gaming community, and make it fun for everyone to help solve the world’s most pressing issues for the benefit of humanity. With the power of EOS, gamers & researchers alike will soon be able to conduct critical research and play to earn in the beautifully designed Boid metaverse, games like Boid Void, and simulations like Boid Colony. Throughout the upcoming Boid Universe, Boid Avatars will provide access to unique experiences & opportunities to have fun with friends while creating positive global change.
You can learn more about Boid Avatars on their interactive website, Boid Universe website, the aforementioned blog post, and in a conversation with Boid lead developer John Heeter & Stéphane Bisson during this week’s EOS Fireside Chat. You can also watch the recent NFT Game Day interview with Evan from Boid on TheUplift to learn more about Boid Avatars and the various projects of Boid. Lastly, you can also watch a video walkthrough of the Boid Avatars and great overview of the Boid ecosystem in this week’s EOS Hot Sauce.
First Eden Fractal Meeting
Fifteen passionate community members met for the first Eden ƒractal meeting on June 8th and used the ƒractally process to reward Eden contributors with EOS, Eden Respect, and Eden NFTs. All participants expressed immense enthusiasm, gratitude, and excitement for the future of empowering the Eden on EOS community with weekly Eden ƒractal meetings!
After a brief introduction to the modified ƒractally process for the Eden ƒractal, the group split up into two groups of six participants. Each participant shared what they’re doing to help Eden with the members of their group and each group reached consensus within forty minutes to rank how much each participant is helping Eden on EOS. All participants made incredibly helpful contributions to the Eden community and received EOS & Eden Respect according to the ranking in their group, as well as beautiful special edition Eden NFTs.
The twelve participants in the first Eden ƒractal event were Vlad Hramtsov, Dan Singjoy, Chuck MacDonald, James Mart, Patrick Schmid, Felix Ruiz, Doug Wu, Marco Gonzalez, Duane Phillippi, Jay Taylor, Martin Breuer, and Mell Pearce. The group was greatly assisted by Joshua Seymour and former Chief Delegate Chris Barnes also attended to help support the event. The event was sponsored by Eden Creators, who have committed to donating 500 EOS and wrote the original proposal to start the Eden ƒractal & raise additional funding for future growth. Near the end of the first meeting, Patrick Schmid announced that NovaCrypto will donate an additional 500 EOS to the Eden ƒractal prize pool, which will enable the community to continue distributing 100 EOS per week to Eden contributors for several months. All funding from Eden Creators and NovaCrypto was raised via Pomelo and Eden on EOS, which are exceedingly helpful funding mechanisms for public goods that are uniquely possible on EOS.
The highest amount of Eden Respect was given to Vlad Hramtsov, the lead developer of Consortium and CETF, who is building smart contracts to enable Eden ƒractal participants to automate the consensus process with more interaction on the EOS blockchain. Vlad also created mock-ups for an intuitive Eden ƒractal UI with the help of fellow Eden member and colleague Lennar Lehestik. Complementing Vlad’s work, and in addition to inspiring the group with tremendously helpful insights, James Mart created basic versions of smart contracts that automatically distribute EOS & Eden Respect according to the Fibonacci ratio and enable participants to sign an on-chain Eden Contributor Agreement. Chief Delegate Chuck MacDonald crafted commemorative Eden NFTs for Eden ƒractal participants, shared fascinating plans to empower the Eden community with yield earning NFTs every week, and encouraged everyone to join the next Eden ƒractal Meetings during the eighth and ninth Chief Delegate Meetings.
Over the past week, the Eden community has been buzzing with activity and expressing great enthusiasm about the next Eden ƒractal events. During this week’s Genesis ƒractally meeting, EOS creator Daniel Larimer said that he is thrilled about the Eden ƒractal and suggested forming Mutual Respect between the Eden ƒractal and Genesis ƒractal. Many passionate community members discussed the Eden ƒractal during the past two Bywire Eden Town Halls in the Eden Discord and explored how the Eden ƒractal may synergize with the Eden Members Services proposal from Michael O’Sullivan that was ratified during the fifth Eden Chief Delegate Meeting. Patrick Schmid hosted an interview about Eden ƒractal on the NovaCrypto Youtube Channel, created a beautiful Eden ƒractal MindMap, and released a cinematic visual experience to help promote the Eden ƒractal. You can watch videos from the first Eden Fractal meeting here & here and you can also learn more about the first Eden Fractal meeting from Eden Creators founder Dan Singjoy on this week’s EOS Fireside Chat and EOS Hot Sauce.
Eden ƒractal events will recur every Wednesday at 13:00 UTC and everyone is welcome to attend. You can join the Eden ƒractal events every week to help Eden, help EOS, have fun with fellow community members, and be rewarded for your work. You can RSVP for the next event & learn more at EdenFractal.com, join the Eden Town Halls every Sunday at 16:00 UTC, and reach out with any questions or comments in the Eden Discord.
