    EOS Labs

EOS Labs was announced this month, a new independent organization that will be a Web3 incubator and builder for the EOS ecosystem.

Working alongside the EOS Network Foundation (ENF) and EOS Network Ventures (ENV), EOS Labs will support projects with sustainable business potential. The ENF will focus on the development and maintenance of critical network infrastructure, public goods, and communications, while the ENV will invest in projects that are ready to efficiently use investor funds.

Funding from several ongoing programs will be redirected to EOS Labs, as part of the ENF’s strategy to provide more targeted and efficient funding in our current market.

This shift has the following impacts:

    EOS EVM Updates

    Powered by EOS: Owlando

Owlando is a game builder and gaming platform that recognizes and compensates players for their creations. NFTs function as digital copyright certificates, ensuring creators can collect compensation from sales or transfers of their work.

EOS is central to Owlando’s revolutionary approach to gaming. The interoperability between EOS Native and EOS EVM allows Owlando players to seamlessly and quickly build game scenarios on-chain.

The EOS Network’s wide reach to potential Web3 users makes it an attractive partner, furthering Owlando’s goal to transition game users from Web 2.0 to Web3. Read the full story on how Owlando is transforming the gaming landscape.

    Gate.io Integrates EOS EVM

Gate.io, a leading cryptocurrency exchange with millions of global users, has integrated with EOS EVM. With Gate.io supporting EOS EVM deposits and withdrawals, using EOS has never been easier.

Pyth Network Adds EOS Price Feed

Pyth Network delivers a decentralized, cross-chain market of verifiable data from first-party sources, including price feeds for smart contracts. It released its EOS/USD price feed earlier this month, adding EOS to the largest first-party oracle network.

    Leap 5.0 Upgrade

    Disabling Deferred Transactions

Preparations continue for the landmark Leap 5.0 upgrade. As part of these steps, deferred transactions (also known as scheduled transactions) must be disabled by September 14, 2023.

Action Required by Node Operators and Application Developers

Check the schedule and instructions in the EOS Network Foundation blog post.

    • Every Node Operator MUST disable deferred transactions for all nodes according to the timelines provided.
    • Every Application Developer MUST remove deferred transaction dependencies in their applications no later than Thursday, September 7, 2023 to avoid service disruptions.

For a quick overview of deferred transactions, why they cause issues, and why they need to be disabled before the upgrade, listen to this clip from the EOS Fireside Chat:

Disabling deferred transactions before the Leap 5.0 upgrade will mean we can proactively address any unexpected issues and ensure the continued reliability and performance of the EOS Network.

More on Leap 5.0 Features: Discussion with Areg & Guillaume

Last month, we heard about some of the new features coming with the Leap 5.0 upgrade.

This month, Areg Hayrapetian, Director of Engineering at the ENF, and Guillaume Babin-Tremblay of UX Network, shared even more details about the exciting benefits the upgrade will bring for the EOS community.

    Benefits like:

    • Block finality that occurs near instantly, as fast as the network will allow.
    • Selectively leveraging EOS VM Optimized Compiler (OC) to speed up EOS EVM smart contracts.
    • Governance options, including the opportunity to decouple block proposer and block finalizer roles.
    • Reducing Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) operations from three minutes to a few seconds.

    Online Events

    Get to Know: Wharf SDK

The Wharf Session Kit v1.0 launched this month, giving developers an easy way to connect users to EOS web apps and establish Sessions on an Antelope blockchain.

Listen to the discussion between Brandon Lovejoy of the ENF and Aaron Cox of Greymass to learn how Wharf’s Session Kit provides developers with the best tools possible for building web apps.

Exploring Antelope IBC: A Webinar for Aspiring Builders

The EOS Network Foundation (ENF) hosted a webinar on Antelope Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) and its powerful ability to create cross-chain applications. This webinar is for aspiring builders looking to understand the underlying structure and potential of Antelope IBC.

Read the full recap and watch the recording, hosted by Nathan James of the ENF and featuring an in-depth presentation by Guillaume Babin-Tremblay of UX Network.

Pomelo: Season 6 Analysis Report & Claiming

Crowdfunding platform, Pomelo, wrapped up Season 6 this month with the release of the analysis report and opening of claiming for eligible grant owners. Quadratic funding is used to distribute the matching pool funds to grants according to the will of the community.

The analysis report shares the findings of the Pomelo team as it strives to identify attempts to game the system and ensure fair distribution of the matching funds.

After analysis is complete, claiming opens, and grant owners and teams can continue to build public goods for the EOS and Telos ecosystems.

    EOS Web IDE

As part of its efforts to build valuable resources for developers to easily build on EOS, the Developer Relations team has launched EOS Web IDE

IDE refers to an integrated development environment that runs in a browser and allows you to write and deploy a smart contract to the blockchain—without leaving your browser or installing any software.

Read the full article for more on how EOS Web IDE makes it easy for developers to get up and running on EOS.

    New EOS Developer Twitter Account

The DevRel team announced a new Twitter account dedicated to EOS developers. Follow @BuildOnEOS for memes, news, and shenanigans tailored specifically for builders.

    EOS Network

The EOS Network is a 3rd generation blockchain platform powered by the EOS VM, a low-latency, highly performant, and extensible WebAssembly engine for deterministic execution of near feeless transactions; purpose-built for enabling optimal Web3 user and developer experiences. EOS is the flagship blockchain and financial center of the Antelope framework, serving as the driving force behind multi-chain collaboration and public goods funding for tools and infrastructure through the EOS Network Foundation (ENF).

    EOS EVM

The EOS EVM is an emulation of the Ethereum EVM, housed within an EOS smart contract. It offers feature parity to other EVMs in the space but with unmatched speed, performance and compatibility. EOS EVM connects the EOS ecosystem to the Ethereum ecosystem by allowing developers to deploy a wide array of Solidity-based digital assets and innovative dApps on EOS. Developers can use EOS EVM to take advantage of Ethereum’s battle-tested open source code, tooling, libraries and SDKs, while leveraging the superior performance of EOS.

    EOS Network Foundation

The EOS Network Foundation (ENF) was forged through a vision for a prosperous and decentralized future. Through our key stakeholder engagement, community programs, ecosystem funding, and support of an open technology ecosystem, the ENF is transforming Web3. Founded in 2021, the ENF is the hub for EOS Network, a leading open source platform with a suite of stable frameworks, tools, and libraries for blockchain deployments. Together, we are bringing innovations that our community builds and are committed to a stronger future for all.
