    ENF joins BGA & CBC

This month, the EOS Network further expands its collaboration with the wider industry, joining the Blockchain Gaming Alliance (BGA) to help drive GameFi adoption by highlighting the EOS network’s speed and throughput as a necessity for the GameFi paradigm.

The mission of the BGA is to raise individual and business awareness about how blockchain can transform games and improve or disrupt existing business categories. They aim to raise awareness and accelerate adoption by acting on existing barriers to innovation and catalyzing efforts to create actionable industry standards and best practices. Standards and strong interoperability are key for broad industry adoption and common knowledge sharing, ensuring blockchain’s success across different companies and structures.

The Alliance also aims to advance wider public understanding and awareness of blockchain games by sharing blockchain technologies’ insights, benefits, and limits. It also provides an open and inclusive platform for discussion & engagement between members and key stakeholders. Under the BGA framework, participants can communicate directly and openly with each other about issues relevant to blockchain and its influences on people, businesses, and society.

In joining the Blockchain Gaming Alliance, the EOS Network has pre-emptively staked its claim on a key industry ripe for disruption through distributed systems.

As an inherently digital enterprise, the $135B video game industry is a natural fit for decentralization through distributed ledgers. Video game tokens have existed for decades, as have the markets to sell them, from World of Warcraft gold to first-person-shooter skins, pointing at a very obvious and easy-to-implement use case for blockchain. With half-second blocks and inter-chain communication, the EOS network is well-positioned to be the performance leader in this space. By collaborating with other GameFi solutions, together the Alliance can empower the world through GameFi.

EOS has also entered into the Canadian Blockchain Consortium (CBC), which advocates for the blockchain industry within Canada. This consortium unites Canada’s diverse blockchain industry to help explore the technology’s transformative potential.

The EOS Network Foundation is a Canadian not-for-profit. Canada has been in the vanguard of crypto development for years, home to Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin among many others. As such, the EOS Network is a natural fit for the CBC.

The CBC supports ecosystem development and hosts monthly gatherings with expert speakers, seeking to educate and raise awareness of the blockchain industry’s incredible economic and social value. They host high-profile events with international reach and engage with industry, government, and academia to explore ways they can use blockchain technology to benefit all Canadians.

Partnerships are a key step to achieving high levels of user adoption. However, EOS historically needed an advocacy organization to find partners. With the EOS Network foundation acting as an advocate for the Network, EOS is quickly joining forces with value-add collaborators to help propel blockchain into the mainstream.

Towards A More Robust and Autonomous EOS Ecosystem

The EOS Network is a remarkable case study on the potential for Web3 network evolution. Since the EOS Network Foundation (ENF) first emerged and was endowed with the resources necessary to champion the interests of the EOS Network, it has pressed forward to establish multiple programs for public goods funding while cultivating a strong team capable of pursuing renewed development on behalf of the EOS Network.

On February 7th, EOS Network BPs approved an MSIG proposed by EOS Asia that adds a smart contract to the eosio.saving account. This smart contract now enables the network issuance that flows into eosio.saving to be programmatically distributed to other accounts and receive ongoing funding directly from the EOS Network. In the near term, the default parameter for this smart contract directs 100% of the funding allocation to the eosio.grants account, which the EOS Network Foundation manages.

The introduction of a system contract that allows issuance to be programmatically distributed creates a pathway towards the evolution of a robust ecosystem of contributors being funded directly by the network.

    Trustless IBC Released

Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) has become a popular phrase in recent years.

In its most basic form, IBC is a way that two blockchains can communicate, sharing information about their ledgers. In other words, IBC allows anyone to prove to contracts on one blockchain that a particular contract action occurred on an entirely separate blockchain.

An important requirement in developing an IBC solution for Antelope chains was that users could transact without relying on additional third parties or added trust. This requirement ensures that users can move tokens and execute cross-chain functions without requiring separate infrastructure operated by permissioned entities.

Like others, this solution uses a bridge to achieve this, but the bridge is at the chain’s base layer rather than through a third party.

With trustless IBC, a user can lock up a token on Chain A, then prove on Chain B that the token is locked to mint a new token representing that asset on Chain B. Users can reverse the process when they want to move their tokens back to Chain A. This reverse process involves burning the token on Chain B and proving it’s burned to unlock the original token on Chain A.

With this solution, the user carries all the proof elements required to demonstrate the action on the source blockchain and prove it on the destination blockchain. Each of the two chains acts as a trusted client of the other, allowing users to trust only the underlying protocol without adding a trusted third party.

Ecosystems are independent without IBC and collaboration is disincentivized. But IBC ties ecosystems together, creating a more collaborative industry. This new era of interoperability will promote collaboration and innovation rather than just promoting the growth of individual networks.

Watch Antelope developers discuss IBC, its implementation on Antelope, and its implications on the wider world on the Everything EOS Podcast.

Yves La Rose in 2023 CoinTelegraph Top 100

Congratulations to Yves La Rose, CEO of the EOS Network Foundation. This month, top crypto publication CoinTelegraph selected Yves as “the people’s choice” in their Top 100 of 2023 list.

Coming in at number 46, Yves has proved that the EOS community is powerful and resilient.

In 2022, The ENF saw tremendous growth as an organization with a rapidly growing team. The ENF also embarked on a global expansion that saw the creation of ENF USA LLC and ENF Hong Kong Ltd.

EOS successfully executed a consensus code upgrade to an independent software fork, cutting all ties with Block.one on September 21st, 2022. In its place, the ENF took charge of development priorities like bug fixes and Inter-Blockchain Communication, finally delivering on the promises Block.one made almost a half-decade ago.

The ENF also forged a strategic partnership with Web3 company Zaisan to maintain a physical presence at Web3 trade shows and events throughout Europe and worldwide. Among other initiatives, the Yield+ portal was launched in Q3 to develop and grow the DeFi ecosystem through a liquidity incentive program.

In 2023, the EOS Network will likely focus on the new EOS DeFi and GameFi ecosystems, expanding support for Web3, NFTs and the metaverse, growing its total value locked, increasing users’ opportunities to earn yield from their EOS assets, and making EOS a more competitive and attractive platform for DeFi applications, builders and users.

EOS is poised to provide businesses with reliable infrastructure and the technical and financial collaboration they need to onboard into the vibrant, innovative blockchain market.

    Pomelo Season 5 is Live

Pomelo season five kicked off this month, with its matching pool bolstered by a $150k grant from the ENF.

Pomelo is an open-source crowdfunding platform inspired by Gitcoin to fund EOS-based projects using a quadratic mechanism to multiply community contributions. It gives greater weight to the number of unique contributors when determining the amount funded. With the magic of quadratic funding, more funds go to grants with more unique donors.

Approved Grant owners get the opportunity to share about their grant on the Pomelo pitch sessions, which Pomelo hosts in three languages: English, Chinese, and Korean. Twitter Spaces hosts English and Korean pitch sessions, while the Chinese sessions are on Tencent Conference.

Participants can also create collections to highlight their favourite grants. A collection is a group of grants by a Pomelo community member. Each collection curator can use whatever mechanisms to organize a collection, such as highlighting a specific theme or category.

As a grant donor, collections can be your guide if you have the funds to donate but can’t read through all the grants every season. Donors can find a collector they trust and donate to the grants in their collection.

NFT fans can join the Season 5 Adventure with a rich backstory and a deep dive into Pomelo lore. Follow the brave Pomelo Astronauts as they explore the moon’s surface and encounter strange new artifacts, and stay up-to-date by following along with the NFT story.

Between these initiatives, Pomelo participants of all stripes can join the Pomelo experience and help fund public goods on EOS.

    Facings Interview and Demo

On the most recent episode of the Everything EOS Podcast, Brandon Lovejoy sat down with CEO Robert (Robrigo) Konsdorf and COO Keir Kleinknecht of Facings to discuss their work creating the open-source NFT Collection Manager. The ENF funded this work through their Direct Grant Framework.

The conversation includes a full walkthrough of the NFT creation process within the Facings Creator, which is the Facings implementation of the open-source Collection Manager

Other topics include the origin of Facings, NFTs within the emerging GameFi sector, the unique qualities of the EOS blockchain for NFTs, as well as thoughts on digital sovereignty and NFTs within today’s regulatory environment.

Binance: AMA & Learn and Earn

Yves La Rose, CEO of the EOS Network Foundation (ENF), joined a special Ask Me Anything (AMA) hosted by Binance on February 17th. Binance is supporting the EOS Network with renewed vigour after listing the EOS version of USDT on its platform and using EOS to pilot the revitalized learn and earn program. This collaboration opens up the Network to a large community of DeFi users from the broader Web3 space.

During the call, La Rose and host Larry discussed the history of EOS, the recent developments in the ecosystem, and plans for the Network. With over 30k viewers, Binance’s AMA provided an open and honest discussion about EOS to a broad audience. Thanks to the clear and honest explanations provided by Yves La Rose, a large portion of the cryptocurrency community saw a reintroduction to the EOS blockchain.

By highlighting the epic story of EOS rising against its corporate overlords and outlining the advantages of EOS over other blockchain platforms, La Rose has brought the decentralized ethos of the EOS Network to a whole new group of enthusiasts.

    Node Operators

The EOS network is entering an era of unprecedented transparency, with code development updates and node operator discussions shared weekly. Similarly, block producers have scheduled a monthly call to discuss priorities, challenges, and other important line items.

Together, these series of discussions are clear demonstrations of the openness and responsiveness of the Core Antelope development team.

In the past, BPs and other ecosystem participants felt frustrated trying to suggest new features or bug fixes to what seemed like a customer service black hole. Between the thousands of unaddressed Github issues and the ignored suggestions that BPs, Wallet devs, and others brought, it was clear that the priority was on something other than user-focused development.

However, under the leadership of the ENF and in a clear demonstration of heightened development activity, all of the thousands of remaining GitHub issues have been resolved. The core team now communicates directly and clearly with BPs and other stakeholders. The level of engagement is a breath of fresh air for the EOS community. These monthly BP calls are one of many prioritization exercises that helps the ENF select the most important development goals with the community’s help.

January Programs & Operations Health Report

The January Programs & Operations Health report shares the milestones and progress for the initiatives the EOS Network funds, including IBC, Hypha DAO, the Market+ Dashboard, Wallet+ SDKs and more.

The Web3 industry built itself on trust, transparency and accountability between projects, contributors and community members. With this in mind, the EOS Network Foundation aims to grow the ecosystem by adhering to these values and ensuring that those in the EOS community receive regular updates on all the work behind the scenes.

The monthly Program & Operations Health Reports are a key part of this strategy, providing high-level insight into important initiatives across EOS. Health scorecards detail the status of various milestones, highlights & accomplishments, upcoming activities and more.
