API+ Blue Paper Released

APIs are basic blockchain infrastructure that should be offered as public good.

Users need to be able to read and write data to/from the blockchain. This is done using APIs that can be self-hosted or, more often, operated by teams offering it as a service and reducing complexity for developers.

APIs have varying degrees of complexity. The ones used to create information on the blockchain can be relatively simple to run. However, a large volume of incoming requests or managing a lot of historical blockchain data make operations challenging.

Well-functioning APIs are critical in attracting developers.

There are several impediments to having the best possible developer experience. They include:
Lack of standards within EOSIO
Specialized community-build solutions are not supported
Operators providing services do so at a financial loss
Lack of participation in the development and adoption of blockchain standards

The API+ working group has proposed several projects to fill critical gaps in the #EOS ecosystem’s basic public infrastructure which will accelerate developer adoption.

For a quick overview, read the one-pager published on Medium and then dive into the full API+ Blue Paper by downloading the PDF document.

Blue Paper Feedback Bounties

The ENF is inviting the broader EOS community to weigh-in on the Blue Papers and to provide valuable feedback to the ENF and its working groups while they work towards the implementation phase!

In order to incentivize such feedback, bounties of 100 EOS, 1000 EOS and 2000 EOS are up for grabs for community members who submit longform feedback!

Here are the categories of longform written feedback the ENF is seeking:

  • Funding Proposal Feedback
  • Alternative Solution
  • Enhanced Solution
  • Additional Section & Solution

To be eligible for the longform bounties, feedback must be submitted before these deadlines:

  • Audit+: March 12th
  • Core+: March 12th
  • Audit+: March 19th
  • Wallet+: TBD

Please make sure to read the Blue Paper Community Feedback Initiative blog post for the full list of criteria that is required for longform feedback to be considered for bounties.

The ENF also welcomes short form feedback via comments on a Google Doc for community members who wish to submit feedback but do not wish to write a long form blog article.

ƒractally White Paper Release

This week, the much anticipated ƒractally White Paper was published and the EOS community has since been engaged in passionate discussions on the subject, including thousands of messages posted in the ƒractally Telegram channel. Since the release, there has been a lot of video content generated (over 4hours!) discussing various aspects of ƒractally which we will share in this article.

The ƒractally White Paper reveal kicked off with a 12 minute overview video published on YouTube.

The next day, on the Weekly EOS Community Fireside Chat, Yves La Rose talked at length about the early feedback he received from various EOS stakeholders in the community. Scroll to the 10 minute mark to hear the start of Yves’ comments.

Up next was a 2-part Bywire News interview with Dan Larimer which goes into greater detail about the philosophy behind ƒractally.

And finally, Dan Larimer dropped in at the 2-hour mark of the 19th Eden Chief Delegate Meeting to share his thoughts on fractally and how it relates to Eden.

#EndRant: Pieces of the Puzzle

In this rant, Yves La Rose bends philosophy towards pragmatism, asking, are functions emergent properties of the system they exist within? What gives them value, and how does this inform the way we go about contributing for the benefit of a system?

#EndRant: It’s All About Balance

Yves La Rose speaks about how he views balance as a guiding principle in his role as Executive Director of the ENF where he’s called upon to integrate many sources of information and make decisions for the benefit of the EOS Network as a whole.

#EndRant: Unrealistic Expectations of Communication

Yves La Rose discusses both the need to temper our expectations around constant updates and also the ENF’s commitment to delivering multilingual content to EOS community members in various regions of the world.

#EndRant: Top Down Pyramid

Yves La Rose rants on what hierarchy & leadership look like in a top down pyramid, or what is sometimes referred to as the servant leader model, while expressing his personal philosophy of learning from, working through, and supporting the empowerment of both individual and community.

EOSIO Swiss Workshop — Special LATAM #5 with Maurice Vanegas

In this EOSIO Swiss Workshop Special LATAM Edition #5, Maurice Venegas talks about the experience of creating EOS Template One and how this experience has given him ideas to deploy code on EOS that empowers small businesses.

For his upcoming project, EOSDTrak, the customer won’t even know he is using a blockchain product.

Also, Maurice talks about a Telegram Bot created to onboard new EOS account holders without having the need of anyone else. Fast and easy! The Telegram Bot is @CreateEOSAccount_Bot. Enjoy creating your EOS account in seconds.

PowerUp Silver NFT Activation

This week the Silver & Gold EOS PowerUp NFTs were activated and can now be staked for additional platform benefits. Users of the automated resource management system offered by EOSPowerUp.io can use a referral code from a staked Silver NFT to receive a 50% discount on platform fees. This code can be used on your own account for a 50% discount or given to other users in order to earn 50% of the platform fees generated by those users.

EOS Network

The EOS Network is a 3rd generation blockchain platform powered by the EOS VM, a low-latency, highly performant, and extensible WebAssembly engine for deterministic execution of near feeless transactions; purpose-built for enabling optimal web3 user and developer experiences. EOS is the flagship blockchain and financial center of the EOSIO protocol, serving as the driving force behind multi-chain collaboration and public goods funding for tools and infrastructure through the EOS Network Foundation (ENF).

EOS Network Foundation

The EOS Network Foundation (ENF) is a not-for-profit organization that coordinates financial and non-financial support to encourage the growth and development of the EOS Network. The ENF is the hub of the EOS Network, harnessing the power of decentralization as a force for positive global change to chart a coordinated future for EOS.
