Introduction

The monthly EOS Block Producer (BP) meetings aim to foster regular communication among the top 30 EOS BPs, the EOS Network Foundation (ENF), EOS Labs, and other network entities. These meetings facilitate an open dialogue between network operators and custodians to support the mutual development of the EOS ecosystem.

Meeting Overview

The meeting began at 1:00 UTC on July 4th, 2024. 18 BPs attended the call, and a total of 27 people participated in the discussions. The Interprefy tool was used for synchronous translation to facilitate the free flow of information across multiple languages in real-time. Beatrice Wang, Communications Manager for ENF, opened the meeting by welcoming the attendees and expressing gratitude for their presence.

The call was led by Yves La Rose, CEO and Founder of the EOS Network Foundation (ENF). The meeting covered several important topics, including updates on the upcoming MSIG related to tokenomics (since executed), as well as infrastructure upgrades for the exSat launch. Participants were reminded to upgrade their infrastructure for increased RAM requirements and to reach out with any questions regarding the upgrade.

Tokenomics MSIG

Yves La Rose discussed the final MSIG related to tokenomics. The MSIG activates staking rewards and redirects network fees to block producers. Block Producers were asked to review and sign the MSIG before July 8th.

Infrastructure Upgrade

Yves La Rose stressed the necessity for infrastructure upgrades in light of the exSat launch, urging participants to enhance their RAM to meet increased demands. He also highlighted the economic impact for Block Producers (BPs), noting that failure to upgrade could lead to producing empty blocks and missing out on significantly increased BPay, now augmented by redirected network fees. Upgrading, therefore, is crucial both for technical performance and economic benefits.

  • The X2i instance, a Xeon instance, starts at 256 GB of RAM. The cost per hour varies depending on your current setup, but it offers a more efficient configuration with higher single-core clock speed compared to the Z1D instance. This instance is cheaper or about the same price as Z1D but offers significantly more RAM and better performance.
  • The 256 GB instance provides ample capacity for the foreseeable future.
  • For those currently using the Z1D instance, Yves advised that it will not be sufficient due to prohibitive costs for necessary RAM upgrades. Switching to the X2i instance is recommended as it is better suited for the new requirements.
  • Participants running bare metal servers can upgrade their infrastructure by adding RAM sticks, potentially as simple as adding 128 GB.

Yves shared the Amazon EC2 X2i Instances link for further reference.

Yves encouraged participants to start upgrading their infrastructure as soon as possible and reach out with any specific questions for further assistance.

EOS Labs and exSat Updates

Huaqiang Wen, founder of EOS Labs and exSat, shared that Labs has added many channels to promote EOS and RAM and has also allocated budget for various promotional activities. Huaqiang noted the visible changes in the community and data.

In July, exSat will synchronize all data before the fourth Bitcoin halving. This will first occur on the test network before being synchronized to exSat. Huaqiang announced they have found an audit company to ensure the safety of exSat.

Upcoming Events

exSat is a 3 BLOCK sponsor at the Bitcoin 2024 Conference in Nashville, taking place from July 25th to the 27th.

Q&A Session

An open floor for questions from participants was provided. No significant questions were raised, and the meeting was concluded.

EOS Network

The EOS Network is a 3rd generation blockchain platform powered by the EOS VM, a low-latency, highly performant, and extensible WebAssembly engine for deterministic execution of near feeless transactions. It is purpose-built for enabling optimal Web3 user and developer experiences. EOS stands as the flagship blockchain and financial center of the Antelope framework, facilitating public goods funding for tools and infrastructure through the EOS Network Foundation (ENF).

EOS EVM

The EOS EVM is an emulation of the Ethereum EVM, housed within an EOS smart contract. It offers feature parity to other EVMs in the space but with unmatched speed, performance and compatibility. EOS EVM connects the EOS ecosystem to the Ethereum ecosystem by allowing developers to deploy a wide array of Solidity-based digital assets and innovative dApps on EOS. Developers can use EOS EVM to take advantage of Ethereum’s battle-tested open source code, tooling, libraries and SDKs, while leveraging the superior performance of EOS.

EOS Network Foundation

The EOS Network Foundation (ENF) was forged through a vision for a prosperous and decentralized future. Through our key stakeholder engagement, community programs, ecosystem funding, and support of an open technology ecosystem, the ENF is transforming Web3. Founded in 2021, the ENF is the hub for EOS Network, a leading open source platform with a suite of stable frameworks, tools, and libraries for blockchain deployments. Together, we are bringing innovations that our community builds and are committed to a stronger future for all.
