Spring 1.0 Stable Released Ahead of September 25th EOS Hard Fork
We are pleased to announce the official release of Antelope Spring v1.0.0, the culmination of extraordinary efforts by ENF engineers and other key contributors in the EOS ecosystem. This release, the most substantial since the network’s inception nearly seven years ago, introduces groundbreaking new features and enhancements designed to significantly improve the network’s performance, security, and scalability.
Key Highlights of Spring 1.0
- Savanna Consensus: The introduction of the Savanna consensus algorithm brings Instant Finality to the EOS Network, reducing transaction finality time by 100x and setting a new standard in blockchain efficiency. This advancement ensures faster and more reliable transactions, reinforcing EOS’s position at the forefront of blockchain technology.
- Enhanced Cryptography: Aggregate BLS signatures lay the groundwork for advanced cryptographic innovations, paving the way for the future implementation of zero-knowledge proof systems and stronger privacy features. These enhancements make the EOS network more secure and capable of supporting complex cryptographic operations.
- Flexible Blockchain Structure: Spring 1.0 opens the door to a potential reconfiguration of the traditional Block Producer role, allowing for the introduction of Block Proposers and Block Finalizers. This change, if adopted, could lead to greater decentralization and improved security across the network.
These developments represent a significant step forward for the EOS Network, with a clear focus on delivering practical and impactful improvements. Read more about Spring 1.0 here.
Important Dates to Remember
- Final Release: September 4, 2024
- Recommended Upgrade Period: September 5, 2024, through September 24, 2024
- Hard Fork: September 25, 2024, at 13:00 UTC
We strongly encourage all node operators and block producers to upgrade their infrastructure during the recommended upgrade period. Failure to upgrade by the hard fork date will result in falling out of sync with the EOS Network.
New License Terms
Antelope Spring is made available under the terms of a Business Source License (BSL) which is automatically granted for all usages which are Directly in Service of or Materially Dependent on the EOS Blockchain Network. Full details of the license terms may be found in the LICENSE file. Parties seeking a License for other usages may inquire by contacting licensing@eosnetwork.com.
NOTE: To maintain IBC compatibility with EOS after it transitions to Savanna consensus, other Antelope chains will need to upgrade to a Savanna compatible IBC contract which depends on the activation of the BLS protocol feature that was first introduced in Leap 5.0.

What Users Need to Know
For EOS users, no action is required. This is a network upgrade that will proceed seamlessly, thanks to the careful planning and execution by the ENF team and strong participation network block producers and ecosystem partners. EOS has the capacity for, and a history of non-contentious hard forks, with major upgrades consistently adopted by a supermajority of block producers. With over 2200 days of continuous uptime, EOS continues to be a reliable and resilient network, now strengthened even further by this latest upgrade.
